Cruise prices can look surprisingly similar until you put them side by side. When we compared Mediterranean cruise prices 2027 across 17 different cruise lines, we expected the familiar pattern: mainstream cruise lines at the cheaper end, premium brands somewhere in the middle and the well-known luxury lines dominating the top.
That is not quite what happened.
For two adults sharing one cabin on representative Mediterranean cruises of about 10 nights, the lowest total we found was $4,542 with Princess Cruises. At the opposite end, SeaDream II came in at $33,998.
That is a difference of almost $30,000 for cruises of roughly the same length and in broadly the same part of the world.
But the size of that gap wasn’t the biggest surprise.
Several cruise lines normally described as luxury — including Explora Journeys, Silversea and Seabourn — were cheaper than Viking in our comparison.
That stopped us in our tracks.
This wasn’t intended to determine which cruise line is “best.” A $5,000 cruise and a $20,000 cruise can deliver very different experiences, and price alone tells you nothing about which one is right for you.
Instead, we wanted to do something much simpler: go window shopping.
What does your money actually buy when you start comparing real cruise prices?
How We Built This 17-Line Cruise Comparison
To make the exercise reasonably consistent, we looked primarily for Mediterranean cruises of around 10 nights during 2027 and priced accommodation for two adults sharing one cabin.
Where possible, we used a balcony or veranda cabin.
That matters because comparing the cheapest inside cabin on one ship with a large veranda suite on another would immediately distort the result.
Even then, this cannot be a perfectly like-for-like comparison.
Cruise lines package their products differently. Princess may sell a relatively low cruise-only fare and allow you to add drinks later. Silversea includes alcoholic drinks and gratuities as part of the fare. Viking includes beer and wine with lunch and dinner, Wi-Fi and one guided excursion in each port.
Regent Seven Seas includes even more.
So we produced two ways of looking at the numbers.
The first is the base cruise price plus normal gratuities, but without purchasing an additional drinks package.
The second adjusts the price to include the lowest qualifying option we could verify for alcoholic drinks throughout the day.
Prices are snapshots rather than promises. Cruise fares can change according to demand, promotions, cabin availability and booking date. Non-US-dollar fares in our research were converted using exchange rates available when we audited the figures in August 2026.

Mediterranean Cruise Prices 2027: The Full Ranking
Starting with the base fare plus gratuities and no purchased drinks package, this is where our 17 cruise lines landed.
17. Princess Cruises — $4,542
We priced Sun Princess in a 235-square-foot Deluxe Balcony cabin. Princess was comfortably the least expensive cruise in the comparison before adding an alcoholic drinks package.
16. Royal Caribbean — $4,984
A Guarantee Ocean View Balcony on Mariner of the Seas, roughly 240–272 square feet, came in just under $5,000 for two.
15. Norwegian Cruise Line — $5,282
Our Norwegian Prima balcony cabin was approximately 231 square feet, with the onboard service charge included in our comparison total.
14. Holland America Line — $6,448
A 212-square-foot verandah aboard Oosterdam pushed the price above $6,000, but it remained firmly within the mainstream-cruise section of our ranking.
13. Celebrity Cruises — $6,728
We priced Celebrity Xcel in an Infinite Veranda of approximately 243 square feet.
At this stage, five cruise lines were still below $7,000 for two people before purchasing an all-day alcoholic drinks package.
Then things changed dramatically.
When Small-Ship and Luxury Cruising Enters the Picture
At $11,020, EXPLORA I was the next ship in our ranking.
That is a substantial jump from Celebrity, but look at what happened to the accommodation. The Ocean Terrace Suite we priced was approximately 377 square feet including its terrace.
Explora also includes wines, champagne, spirits, cocktails, Wi-Fi and gratuities.
Next came Azamara Onward at $11,178, followed by Silver Ray at $11,310.
Silver Ray is particularly interesting.
The Classic Veranda Suite we compared measured approximately 357 square feet, considerably larger than the entry cabins used for Princess, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Holland America and Celebrity.
Silversea also includes alcoholic drinks and gratuities in the fare.
If you have always assumed that an ultra-luxury cruise automatically means spending more than you would on Viking, this is where the numbers begin challenging that assumption.

Oceania Allura followed at $11,798 before upgrading to all-day alcoholic drinks.
Then came Seabourn Ovation at approximately $13,160 and Windstar’s Star Legend at $13,366.
By now, we were looking at ships carrying far fewer passengers than many mainstream cruise ships, larger entry-level accommodation in several cases and substantially more included in the fare.
It is one reason we always caution against choosing a cruise purely according to the label attached to the brand.
“Luxury” does not automatically mean “most expensive.”

Why Viking Was One of the Biggest Surprises
After Crystal Symphony at $16,200, we reached Viking Sea at $18,398 for two.
We used a 270-square-foot Veranda V2.
There is a lot included in the Viking product that is easy to overlook when comparing headline cruise fares.
Beer and wine are included with lunch and dinner. Wi-Fi is included. Guests receive access to Viking’s Nordic Spa facilities, and there is generally one guided excursion included in each port.
Viking also operates an adults-only ocean-cruise product with relatively small ships carrying fewer than 1,000 passengers.
Those things have value.
But this exercise was deliberately about price rather than declaring a winner, and the price produced an interesting result.
Viking cost more than Explora Journeys, Azamara, Silversea, Oceania, Seabourn and Windstar in our base ranking.
Silver Ray was $11,310 for two compared with $18,398 for Viking Sea — a difference of more than $7,000.
That doesn’t automatically make Silversea better value, because itineraries, excursions, airfare promotions, cabin categories and personal preferences all matter.
But it does mean we shouldn’t assume Viking will be cheaper simply because Silversea or Seabourn carries the “luxury” label.

The Most Expensive Cruises in Our Comparison
Above Viking came PONANT’s Le Bougainville at approximately $19,441.
This is a very different proposition from a large mainstream cruise ship. Le Bougainville carries only around 184 guests, making it one of the smallest ships in our comparison.
Then came Regent Seven Seas Prestige at $19,998.
Its Deluxe Veranda Suite was approximately 440 square feet, the largest accommodation in our entire comparison.
Regent also demonstrates why headline price comparisons need context. Drinks, gratuities and unlimited shore excursions are among the items bundled into the Regent experience, so that $19,998 fare is buying considerably more than simply a cabin and transportation between ports.
Next was Emerald Azzurra at approximately $25,427.
With around 100 guests, Azzurra is much closer to a luxury yacht experience than a conventional cruise ship. We priced a 312-square-foot Balcony Suite, with drinks, gratuities and selected excursions included.
Finally came SeaDream II at $33,998 for two.
Interestingly, SeaDream was also the one major exception to our balcony-cabin approach because the ship simply doesn’t have private balcony staterooms.
The Yacht Club Stateroom we used is approximately 195 square feet with an ocean view.
SeaDream carries around 100 guests and operates far more like a private yacht than a conventional cruise ship, with its open bar and gratuities already included.
So at one end of our experiment we had Sun Princess at $4,542.
At the other, SeaDream II at $33,998.
Similar cruise length. Similar part of the world.
Almost $30,000 separating them.
What Happens When You Add All-Day Drinks?
The comparison becomes even more useful when we adjust for travellers who want alcoholic drinks available throughout the day rather than simply paying for individual drinks.
Princess Plus increased our Sun Princess total from $4,542 to $5,582 for the couple.
Norwegian increased from approximately $5,282 to $5,852.
Holland America’s qualifying Have It All offer took Oosterdam from $6,448 to $7,288.
Celebrity produced the largest drinks-related increase we could verify. Its qualifying option took the couple total from approximately $6,728 to $8,128, an increase of about $1,400.
Oceania moved from $11,798 to $12,598 when we adjusted for all-day drinks.
Viking increased much less dramatically because beer and wine are already included with lunch and dinner. Adding the Silver Spirits package took our Viking Sea total from $18,398 to $18,938.
Several luxury lines required no adjustment at all.
Explora remained at $11,020. Silversea remained at $11,310. Seabourn remained around $13,160 because alcoholic drinks were already included.
That is where simply looking at advertised cruise fares can become misleading.
A lower headline price may still be the cheaper holiday, but the gap can shrink after you add the things you know you will actually buy.
Royal Caribbean is the one line we couldn’t accurately place in our all-day-drinks ranking. Its Deluxe Beverage Package uses sailing-specific dynamic pricing through Cruise Planner, and we couldn’t verify the exact price for our 2027 sailing without an actual booking.
Rather than estimate it, we left it out.
Price Is Only One Part of Choosing a Mediterranean Cruise
This comparison deliberately ignores one enormously important question: where is the ship actually taking you?
A cheaper cruise visiting ports you don’t particularly want to see is not a bargain.
Likewise, paying considerably more can make sense if the itinerary includes smaller ports, longer stays, overnight calls or destinations that large ships cannot easily access.

How We Would Use These Prices Before Booking
The biggest lesson from this exercise isn’t that Princess is cheap or SeaDream is expensive.
It’s that the name on the ship doesn’t tell you enough about the final price.
Start with the cabin you would genuinely be happy occupying for 10 nights.
Then look at the total fare for two people rather than the attractive per-person headline price.
After that, add what matters to you: gratuities, drinks, Wi-Fi, speciality dining, excursions and anything else you realistically expect to purchase.
Only then start comparing one cruise with another.
The lowest price can sometimes remain the best value by a very wide margin. In other cases, an apparently expensive all-inclusive cruise begins looking far more competitive once you’ve added several extras to the cheaper alternative.
And if you’re flying a long distance to join your cruise, don’t forget the costs on either side of the sailing. A pre-cruise hotel can be particularly valuable in Europe because arriving at least a day early reduces the risk of a flight disruption causing you to miss the ship.

What Mediterranean Cruise Prices 2027 Taught Us
We started this comparison expecting to create a straightforward price ranking.
Instead, the middle of the list became more interesting than either end.
Princess being cheaper than SeaDream isn’t surprising.
Silversea being substantially cheaper than Viking was.
So was finding Explora Journeys and Seabourn below Viking in a straightforward price ranking.
That doesn’t prove one cruise line offers better value than another. Value is personal.
Someone who wants Viking’s adults-only atmosphere, included shore excursion, Scandinavian design and familiar style may happily pay the difference.
Another traveller may look at Silver Ray’s larger entry-level suite, smaller passenger count, included drinks and gratuities and wonder why they had previously assumed Silversea would be beyond their budget.
That is exactly why we do comparisons like this.
Before spending thousands — or tens of thousands — of dollars on a cruise, don’t rely on assumptions about which cruise brands are “affordable,” “premium” or “luxury.”
Compare the actual cabin.
Compare what’s included.
Compare the itinerary.
And above all, compare the final amount that will leave your bank account.
